In short: Om Mani is completely free: every sutra, every feature, for everyone. No ads, no account, no personal data collected. The Support (Hộ trì) section inside the app is a gift of the heart, entirely voluntary: it unlocks nothing. If you never give anything, the whole app is still fully yours.
1. Accepting these terms
This is an agreement between you and the developer of Om Mani – Global Buddhism. By downloading, opening or using the app, you are taken to have read and agreed to what follows. If there is something here you cannot accept, please stop using the app and remove it from your device.
We have tried to write this in the plainest language we can, because an app about mindfulness should not tire you out with its paperwork.
2. About Om Mani
Om Mani – Global Buddhism is a Buddhist app for practitioners around the world: a lunar calendar and holy days, sutras and mantras, a Buddha-recitation player, bell, wooden fish and mala, meditation, blessing and memorial prayer rooms, a library of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and a collection of calming imagery and sound. The app is developed and operated by Nguyen Tien Duoc, an independent developer based in Vietnam, and published on the App Store and Google Play.
3. Your right to use the app
We grant you a personal, non-commercial, non-exclusive and revocable right to install and use Om Mani on devices that belong to you, for your own study and practice.
You are entirely free to quote a verse, share a screenshot, or pass on a mantra from the app for study, for teaching the Dharma, or for any non-commercial sharing. The Dharma is meant to be given away, and we are only glad when it travels.
4. Things we ask you not to do
So that the app remains a peaceful place for everyone, please do not:
- Copy, redistribute, sell or rent the app, or exploit its content commercially, without our written permission.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, modify the code, or attempt to bypass the app’s technical limits and protections.
- Use automated tools to harvest data in bulk, generate abnormal load, or disrupt other people’s experience.
- Use the name of Om Mani to solicit donations, sell paid fortune-telling, trade in spiritual goods, or engage in any form of superstition for profit.
- Impersonate the developer, monastics, temples, or any other person or organisation.
- Post content that is abusive, hateful, harassing, religiously or racially discriminatory, or that invades another person’s privacy.
5. A word about the Dharma content
The sutras, mantras, teachings, holy days and Buddhist material in Om Mani are gathered, cross-checked and edited from translations and editions that have long circulated across many traditions: Theravada, Mahayana, Vajrayana and Pure Land. We do our utmost to stay faithful to the sources, though translations, transliterations and liturgies naturally differ between traditions. That is richness, not error.
Om Mani is a companion, not a teacher. Everything in the app is offered as a reference for your practice, and does not replace the direct guidance of monastics or of the teachers you rely on.
Please also note: material on meditation, the lunar calendar, auspicious days and hours, zodiac compatibility or astrology is not medical, psychological, legal or financial advice. If you are struggling with your physical or mental health, please seek qualified care. The app can sit beside you, but it cannot heal in your place.
6. Prayer rooms, memorial rooms and what you write
In the blessing and memorial rooms, your prayers and dedications may appear alongside those of practitioners around the world. Because this is a shared space, please keep in mind:
- Write with a settled heart, in your own words, and with respect for those remembered and for those who will read.
- Please do not include sensitive details such as phone numbers, addresses, health information or bank details, whether your own or someone else’s.
- You keep the rights to what you write. You also allow us to display it inside the app for the sole purpose of running the prayer rooms.
- We may hide or remove content that breaks these rules, such as advertising, abuse, politics, incitement or superstition for profit, without prior notice, so that the space stays quiet.
7. The app is free, and about the Support (Hộ trì) section
Let us say this once, plainly: Om Mani is free, and will stay free. No feature is locked behind a payment, there is no premium tier, no advertising, and no selling of user data. Sutras, meditation, recitation, the lunar calendar, bell and wooden fish, imagery, all of it is open to everyone, equally.
Alongside that, the app offers a Support (Hộ trì) section, for those who wish to contribute a small part toward server costs, image and audio licences, developer fees, and the work of preparing the content, so the app can keep going. It is a voluntary contribution, given as your heart moves you.
What you should know about the Support contribution
- Entirely voluntary. You are never asked to give in order to use any feature, and the app will not press you.
- It unlocks nothing. Supporting brings no exclusive content, privileges, badge or advantage inside the app. It is a gesture of support, not a purchase of goods.
- One-time, never auto-renewing. Each contribution is a single payment. There is no subscription and nothing will ever be charged again quietly. You may give again whenever you feel moved to, or never.
- Payment is handled by Apple or Google. The transaction goes through the App Store or Google Play using your own account. The amount and currency are shown clearly before you confirm. We never see and never store your card or payment account details.
- Not a charitable donation. The contribution goes toward running and improving the app. It is not a tax-deductible charitable gift, and it is not money passed on to any temple or religious organisation.
And if today you are not able to give, please do not let it weigh on you. If you open the app, sit still for a while, and find your heart a little lighter, to us that is already the greatest support of all.
8. On-device AI
On devices that support Apple Intelligence (iOS 26.1 or later), the app can use an AI model running entirely on your device to open up the meaning of the day’s verse. That content is never sent to our servers or to any third party.
An AI explanation is only a prompt for your own reflection; it may be incomplete, or not quite match the tradition you follow. Please always let the scriptures and the words of your teachers be your main refuge.
9. Privacy
Om Mani does not collect your personal data: no account, no name, no email, no advertising trackers. Your practice data stays on your device and syncs privately through your own iCloud. See the Privacy Policy for details.
10. Intellectual property
The name, logo, interface, source code, and the way the content is organised and presented in Om Mani belong to the developer and are protected by law.
The scriptures, mantras and teachings themselves are the shared heritage of humanity. We do not own them, and no one can own the Dharma. What is ours is only the work of editing, digitising, translating and presenting. Imagery, meditation music and recordings in the app are used under valid licences or are in the public domain.
11. If we have used your work by mistake
We are careful with copyright, but mistakes are still possible. If you hold the rights to an image, translation or recording that appears in the app without permission, please write to us with a description of the work, where it appears in the app, and proof of your rights. We will respond within 7 working days and will remove it or add attribution, as your request reasonably asks.
12. Third-party services
Om Mani works alongside services outside our control: Apple’s App Store and iCloud, Google Play, and the services that host our imagery and audio. Your use of those services is also governed by their own terms and policies.
13. The app is provided “as is”
We build Om Mani with care and sincerity, but we cannot promise that it will always run without faults or interruption, or that every piece of content is perfectly accurate. To the extent permitted by law, the app is provided “as is” and “as available”.
In particular, we make no guarantee as to the absolute accuracy of the lunar calendar, auspicious days and hours, zodiac compatibility or astrology. These are traditional bodies of knowledge passed down over generations; please receive them as reference, and with a settled mind.
14. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from your use of the app, or your inability to use it, including loss of practice data, a missed holy-day reminder, or an iCloud sync failure. Please treat backing up anything important as part of your own care.
If the law where you live does not allow such exclusions, our liability is limited to the minimum that the law permits.
15. Suspension and termination
You may end this agreement at any time, simply by uninstalling the app. For our part, we may limit or end access from a device where we find a serious breach of these terms, above all conduct that harms the community of practitioners.
16. Changes to the app and to these terms
The app will keep growing; some features may change or come to rest. When these terms are updated, we will post the new version on this page with its date. Continuing to use the app after that is taken as your agreement to the update.
17. App Store specific terms
If you downloaded Om Mani from the App Store, this agreement is concluded between you and the developer, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content, and has no obligation to furnish maintenance or support. Any claim relating to the app, from product liability and legal compliance through to privacy and intellectual property, is the developer’s responsibility to address. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and have the right to enforce them against you. For anything this page does not cover, Apple’s standard licence agreement applies in addition: Apple Standard EULA.
18. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Vietnam. Should a dispute arise, we would first hope to sit down together in good faith. If it cannot be settled that way, it will be brought before a competent court in Vietnam. None of this affects the consumer-protection rights the law of your own country of residence gives you.
19. Contact
For any question about these terms, about copyright, or about the Support contribution, please write to us: ommani.global@gmail.com
May your days be light, your steps gentle, and your heart ever at peace.
